Alcace-ish

The Alsace is unique amongst the great French regions. The territory has flipped from French – German nationality and back again several times over the centuries. The German influence is clear, many world beating Rieslings come from the region, but there is also a French gastronomic tradition that means the wines are drier than their German neighbours. The climate is cool but has relatively low rainfall, allowing for slow ripening of the varieties Pinot Gris and Gewurztraminer, producing rich, complex and aromatic whites, that are uniquely food friendly.
Pinot Gris and Gewurztraminer often show a little bit of residual sugar which always helps to balance a spicy dish, Riesling’s acidity always helps to cut througholy fish or the fat of belly pork.
