Alfredo Maestro
On inheriting his father’s Ribeira del Duero vineyards in the 1990’s Alfredo Maestro decided to convert them to organic viticulture, following biodynamic principles. After many years perfecting minimal intervention in the vineyard he made the decision to follow the same principles in the winery. Using natural fermentation, no added sulphur and old oak he has perfected his techniques over the last 2 decades but has also fallen out with the Ribeira del Duero Denominacion de Origen because of his winemaking philosophy. His wines are now declassified to Vino de la Tierra de Castilla Y Leon, but Alfredo is still regarded as one of the leading lights of the Spanish natural wine movement.
