Brumont Chateau Bouscasse

Alain Brumont has one ambition: that his actions as a winegrower are reflected in his wines. A tireless explorer of Gascon terroirs, promoter of local grape varieties, a gardener who lovingly tends his vines, a winemaker who is respectful of cultural roots, he is South-West France's leading wine producer, both in the Madiran and Parenchec du Vic Bilh appellations and in the Cotes de Gascogne. He has achieved his ambition: Bouscasse, Montus and Torus have become icons in the world of fine wines, and each vintage is an expression of his dream.

Before being recognized as great winemaker, Alain Brumont was able to create a taste. Alongside the three-hundred-year-old tastes of regions such as Bordeaux and Burgundy, there is now the taste of Brumont's wines. A phenomenon in the wine world, Alain Brumont has developed his own style, he is an appellation within an appellation. There are only a handful of such people in the world.

Without any industry or towns of any size to pollute the air or water for 100 kilometres around, the vines benefit from an ideal environment in which Alain Brumont is able to apply his method: through observation, experiments of all kinds, and this desire to enhance the terroir, and draw out all of its substance, the vineyard is given expression, and very Great Wines are made.

Chateau Bouscasse has belonged to the Brumont family for several generations. The property includes 50 hectares of superb clay-limestone terroir along the cliff in the commune of Maumusson-Laguian. This terroir is also somewhat humorously known as the Pied de Cote de Saint Emilion ("The foot of the Saint Emilion Slope"), because the Tannat that grows there produces a wine that has similar characteristics to some of the great wines of Bordeaux's right bank, in that they possess a rigorous style, a refined structure and a substantial potential to age.

Terroir of fine yellow and white variegated clays on a layer of fissured limestone. Sustainable agriculture, natural compost.

Vinification and Maturing 3 to 6 weeks maceration. Fermentation at 28°C Maturing in barrels, 30% to 50% new.

Harmony and power, a delicate fruitiness with aromas of blackberries and well-integrated tannins, full-bodied on the palate. This is a wine that stays young for a long time, evolving very slowly, and thus has a good potential to age.
