Glengoyne & Tamdhu
Where do we start with these guys, 100% powered by green energy, waste products used to create animal feed and bio-fuel, doners to the Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust, on site beehives to promote bio-diversity and as of 2020, fully sustainable, recyclable packaging with no metals or plastics used!
Is the liquid any good though? Hell yes! This is old school, spicy malt, the younger and cask strength expressions lean more heavily on fresh bourbon casks for apple, banana, vanilla and coconut characters, as they get older, we see more sherry cask maturation bringing more cinnamon, cocoa, marmalade and dried fruits coming through. Classy stuff.
Glengoyne’s sister distillery over in Speyside (good company this). Tamdhu are currently focusing on helping the waterways of Speyside, they have been helping to create one of the longest & highest fish passes in the entire UK on the Knockando Burn. This has been inaccessible to migrating salmon and sea trout since Victorian times but is now open and the fish are thriving.
All Tamdhu whisky is aged exclusively in ex-oloroso sherry casks for a rich opulent dram perfect for winter, think cinnamon, nutmeg, apricot and spiced currents.
