Black Tears Spiced Rum

Black Tears is a blend of Cuban rum and Cuban spices. Based on a Silver Dry rum from one of the best distilleries on the island, Black Tears is the first ever dry Spiced Cuban Rum on the global market.

The bittersweet taste is what sets apart Black Tears from all other spiced rums, as well as its low sugar content, which is typical for Cuban rum. It is spiced with coffee and cacao which have played a large hand in Cuba's history as well as aji dulce (Cuban sweet pepper) which is one of the most distinctive flavours in Cuban cuisine.

Full of toasty, roasted flavours, because it is not overly sweet, this works very well in a rum Old Fashioned. Just don't skip on the orange peel.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Slightly unusual sweet peppery aroma. This is backed up by wafts of dark chocolate and some slightly bitter cocoa.

Palate: Loads of baking spices, with nutmeg and cinnamon leading into chilli pepper spice, roasted coffee bean and dusty cocoa, with toasted, slightly caramelised nuts.

Finish: Long and the spicy sweet pepper really stands out with the coffee and cocoa taking a back seat. For a Spiced Rum it has a fair amount of complexity.
