For many, Martini is the first and last word when it comes to vermouth and aromatised wines, and is one of the most famous drinks brands in the world. As well as vermouth, the company also produces sparkling wines as well as its own gin.
One of the few brands that can genuinely use the term 'iconic', Martini & Rossi (to give it its full name) was founded in Turin in 1863, and is now, by some distance, the market leader in vermouth. Its two biggest sellers are the Extra Dry and the Rosso, although new flavours have been introduced of late.
Ambrato is one half of Martini's Riserva Speciale range, a Vermouth di Torino that uses wines from Moscato d'Asti and three types of wormwood, Absinthium, Pontica and Vulgaris. It is named after the colour, ambrato is Italian for amber.
Tasting Notes
Deep golden-amber in colour, aromas of wormwood, lemon, orange, white blossom and herbs are revealed on the nose, whilst the palate is luscious yet tangy with honeyed flavours of exotic fruit, herbs, elderflower and sandalwood.
