With a dynamic perspective on the industry, the likewise endless possibilities for innovating operations at his own winery are what called Courtney to found Angeline in 1990, and what continues to call him to raise the bar on everyday wines.
Early on, Courtney recognized that great wine is the sum of more than just good grapes and talented winemakers; it’s the result of an efficient, nimble whole. As with so many start-up ideas, there is a constant conceptual interplay between our lean core team and a selection of expert consultants and growers. Unyielding devotion to this fusion of great fruit and great minds is precisely what Angeline has stood for nearly three decades.
Angeline carefully select vineyards from areas such as Santa Barbara County, the Russian River Valley, and the western reaches of Mendocino County in order to promote the full potential of their Chardonnay’s aroma and palate. These coastal regions similarly tend toward uniform daytime temperatures and cool, foggy nights throughout the growing season to help concentrate the flavour as the sugar and acids develop.
Each individual vineyard is hand-picked, and pressed to stainless steel tanks where it is chilled and settled for two to three days. It is then inoculated with carefully chosen yeast, specifically picked to amplify each region’s distinct terroir. The juice is racked to 30% new French and American oak barrels to fully complete both primary and secondary fermentation, where it will age sur lie for 6 months.
This elegant wine offers aromas of fresh granny smith apple, lemon custard tart and subtle wildflower honey . The body is clean with fresh acidity balancing cream with notes of bananas foster, and a touch of vanilla on the finish.
