Amaro Averna was created in 1868 by the herbalist monks of San Spirito Abbey in Caltanissetta, Sicily for Salvatore Averna, for whom this amaro is named.
Averna was the first licensed spirit in Sicily and has since grown to become Italy's best selling amaro.
An infusion of aromatic herbs, dried flowers, spices and liquorice are allowed to soak in the base liquor before caramel is added.
Tasting Notes
An aromatic nasal awakening of freshness and spice, cola, bitter orange, herbal bark, jasmine and quinine. The palate is bittersweet and lightly spicy with flavours of bitter orange zest, mocha, liquorice, gentian, quinine, caramel, cola and rosemary.
