Le Clos des Menuts is the property of Maison Riviére which operates over 100 hectares in the heart of Bordeaux vineyards and also has a trading establishment. After the war, the Clos des Menuts was only one hectare. Today, the vineyard covers 25 hectares located almost at the foot of the ramparts of Saint-Emilion, with a clearly dominant Merlot and the rest in Cabernet, frank as Sauvignon.
The terroir is that of the heart of the appellation, with an important limestone presence. The wine is a blend of 85% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon 5% Cabernet Franc which is made by the famous Bordeaux family Jean Pierre & Philippe RIVIÈRE and winemaker Stéphane De Renconcourt.
This domain is provided with superb medieval cellars, constantly at 12 degrees and where there is a religiosity proper to aging.
The Riviére brothers have made Clos the flagship of their properties as much as their laboratory. It was there, for example, that they began to harvest in small crates so as not to damage the grapes. This is also where reasoned wrestling was adopted in 2001, before spreading to their other fields.
Tasting Notes
Old and mellow but lots of huge spiced fruit. The complexity of an old wine with the exuberance of a new wine.
