Producer Information

The winery was founded in 1910 by Don Sami Flichman, who emigrated to Argentina from Lodz in Poland. He purchased property in Barrancas (southern Maipu) and planted vines in rocky, well-drained plots situated along the Mendoza river. It was Sami’s son Isaac who first began to make fine wine at the estate. Trained in oenology in France, Isaac and winemaker Raúl de la Mota created Caballero de la Cepa, one of the first high-quality wines that garnered international awareness for premium Argentinian wines.

The Guedes-family-owned Sogrape purchased Finca Flichman in 1998 and invested heavily in restoring the vineyards and modernising the winery. Finca Flichman still owns the original Barrancas vineyard but since 1998 has expanded to the higher altitudes of Tupungato in the Uco Valley. Situated at the foot of the Andes, the vineyards benefit from large diurnal temperature variations, which result in longer ripening seasons and more elegant styles. Today, the local winemaking team is supported by consultant and renowned winemaker Alberto Antonini as well as Pedro Parra, the South American expert on soil and vineyard mapping.

When Sami’s son Isaac started making wine at the estate, for decades the very best wine was not released to the market, but rather kept in the family cellar and given as gifts. On the bottle was a handwritten label – ‘Dedicado a amigos’ (dedicated to friends) – which is the inspiration behind Finca Flichman’s flagship series made from the very best hand-harvested parcels of fruit. Grapes for these wines are sourced from estate vineyards in Tupungato in the Uco Valley and from Barrancas in Southern Maipu. The Tupungato single vineyard provides fruit for the Chardonnay, Malbec and the Tupungato Blend (which is comprised of Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot). The Barrancas single vineyard blend is made of Syrah, Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon. The Syrah used in the Barrancas Blend comes from the oldest Syrah vines in Argentina, having been planted in 1927 by Isaac Flichman who brought cuttings over from the Rhône. The ‘Gran Malbec’ and ‘Gran Corte’ are aged for longer – 12 months in French oak barrels with an additional year in the bottle. The ‘Gran Corte’ is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec and Syrah. The winemaking team, together with Alberto Antonini and Pedro Parra, have crafted a series of wines which pay homage to the winery’s ancestors as well as the land on which the vines grow.

The Dedicado is made from the best hand-harvested fruit from the high-altitude Tupungato vineyards in the Valle de Uco. Terroir consultant Pedro Parra of Clos des Fous consults on the vineyards. Tasting Notes

Only made in the best years, this blend of Cabernet, Malbec and Syrah has rich aromas of black plums, blackberries, violets and tobacco leaves and is made from fruit sourced from estate owned vineyards. The Syrah is from Argentina's oldest vines.
A deep red wine with violet shades. There is a rich aroma of black plums, blackberries and tobacco leaves. On the palate it is soft, elegant and complex with a long finish.
