The Glengoyne distillery sits at the foot of Dumgoyne Hill near Loch Lomond. The distillery itself is very small, neat and picturesque. Being just North of Glasgow, it is one of the easiest Scottish distilleries to get to and they put on a great tour too!
Glengoyne are one of the most sustainable distilleries in Scotland, they donate to local nature projects, they are fully powered by renewable energy and have recently moved into new eco-friendly packaging made with recycled materials sourced within 30 miles of the distillery, with no plastics used.
Glengoyne’s stills are Scotland’s slowest, this encourages the formation of ‘esters’ giving Glengoyne its characteristically sweet, fruity taste. No peat is used in the barley drying process, allowing the subtle, complex flavours of slow distillation and exquisite wood to shine through. Glengoyne’s natural colour comes from time and wood alone.
The 10yo is a soft, sweet single malt and a winner of a Gold Medal at the 2007 San Francisco World Spirits Competition.
Tasting Notes
Nose: Slightly herbal, big bourbon influence which has brought a wonderful "high note". White milk bottle sweets, more creamy than fruity.
Palate: Barley rich, more bourbon influence. Clean and dry.
Finish: Long, barley rich, touch of hoi sin.
