Since 1808, Champagne Henriot, one of the last independent and family-owned houses in Champagne, has pursued a tradition of excellence, a fragile balance between delicacy, intensity, and purity. For seven generations, the family has selected only the very best vineyards, concentrated on the purity of Chardonnay and has upheld the utmost respect for time in order to ensure each cuvée has an opportunity to reach its full expression.
In 1791, Nicolas Henriot settled in Reims and started a negociant business. His subsequent marriage to Apolline Godinot brought a dowry of vineyards in the Montagne de Reims. Following Nicolas' death in 1808, the veuve Henriot founded the maison.
Henriot's close association with Chardonnay dates back to another important wedding in 1880 when Paul married Marie Marguet, owner of vineyards in the Côtes des Blancs. Today Henriot is one of those rare family Champagne maisons, still independently owned and managed by the eponymous family continuously since its beginnings.
Joseph Henriot has maintained the commitments made by the previous generations as the head of the Maison, commitments that consist of selecting the best crus, enhancing Chardonnay's purity and giving each cuvée time to develop fully.
Since 2008 his son Thomas Henriot has been gradually stepping into his father's shoes, representing the seventh generation to lead the family company. He continues to preserve the House's “historical" spirit while instilling in it a new dynamism.
Mellow and generous, Henriot Demi-Sec retains all the elegance, freshness and delicacy of the Champagne Henriot style. Demi-Sec is a balanced blend of Chardonnay, mainly from Côte des Blancs, and Pinot Noir mostly from Montagne de Reims. A tiny portion of Pinot Meunier adds delicate fruity notes. Reserve wines represent around 20% of the blend with over 25 “crus" blended varying from one year to another according to the different weather conditions, to maintain Henriot's style. It will enhance desserts and is perfect as an aperitif when served chilled.
Attractive gold colour with jade green tinges. Persistent effervescence with fine, regular bubbles. Elegant and slightly sweet aromas at the start, developing into white flowers which lead on to more evolved smoky notes and flavors of roast apples. On the palate, a clean attack with notes of sweet citrus and candied peach leading to a finale of toast and honey.
