Josef Chromy is a true success story based on hard work, experience and a deep-seated commitment to creating quality wine. Since arriving as a refugee from Soviet-occupied Czechoslovakia, he has been the driving force behind the Tasmanian wine scene.
He was a major investor in the early days of Tasmanian winemaking and has been involved with many of the island's leading wineries, including Jansz, Heemskerk and Tamar Ridge Wines.
At 76, when others think of retiring, Josef achieved his life-long dream of establishing a winery under his own name. In just a few short years, he has made a remarkable impact on wine lovers and critics alike: his wines have been awarded over 14 trophies and 170 medals which make Josef Chromy one of the most successful winery launches in Australian history
100% Riesling sourced from our estate vineyard at Relbia in northern Tasmania.
The Riesling is hand-picked and transported to the winery as quickly as possible. Pressing commences as soon as the grapes arrive and the juice is transferred to stainless steel tanks, with only the free-run juice retained. Racked from solids after 2 days, it is then fermented at cool temperatures with a neutral yeast to showcase varietal characters. Bottled under screwcap, to enable the wine to be enjoyed at its optimum.
Pale straw with light green hues. Floral aromatics of apple and lemon blossom with hints of lavender, overlay freshly cut lime and ginger spice. Juicy lime and lemon curd characters combine with pomegranate and bath salts. The long, crisp citrus palate is balanced by gentle chalky texture and the natural cool climate acidity, creating a wine of length and structure.
