Over a third of Italy’s organic vineyards are found in Sicily. The hot climate and breezy conditions mean that disease pressure in the vineyards is low, one of the reasons why many Sicilian growers have embraced organic practices. In the hills around Menfi, there are close to 1,000 hectares of organic vineyard, so it was relatively easy to select the best of these vineyards to use as the base for the Jummare wines.
The vineyards for this wine are situated in the Menfi area, at an altitude of 250 metres above sea level on limestone-clay soils. The pruning system is Guyot.
On arrival at the winery, the grapes were crushed and destemmed. Fermentation took place at 18-22°C for up to 10 days. Ageing took place in stainless-steel tanks for three months.
Straw yellow with young greenish reflections, this wine opens with intense yet fine and elegant notes of hawthorn, grapefruit, apple, white peach and acacia honey. On the palate, it is fresh and balanced with a long lingering finish.
