Penny Blue is a single estate rum on the West side of Mauritius, nestled between the mountains and the azure sea, the Medine distillery has been producing rum since 1926.
Located at the heart of the sugar plantation is the sugar cane press, distillery and ageing warehouse, ensuring every step of production takes place in the Estate. Single Estate means control over every detail; each stage is looked over to ensure everything is done right. It means the fingerprint of the land the sugar cane is grown, the tropical ageing, distillation and breeze from the sea influence the rum in the way the distillers want it to.
The VSOP is aged in ex Cognac, Bourbon and Whisky barrels before being blended by Master Distiller Jean-Francois Koenig and Doug McIvor from Berry Bros & Rudd.
Nose: Marmalade, melon skin and cloves.
Palate: Soft and luxuriant with hints of glazed fruits, cedar wood and spices.
Finish: Citrus rinds and spice.Â Far more elegant than any rum is this price point has any right to be! Total bargain.
