This winery from brothers Hugo and Eduardo Pulenta is located in Alto Agrelo in Mendoza. From Italian roots, they have continued their family tradition. Angelo Antonio Polenta emigrated from Italy to Mendoza in 1902 and soon changed his name to the Argentine Pulenta. He bought his first land in 1914, built a small winery on it, and thus established a family-owned company that grew until 1997 when it was sold. In 2001 his grandsons Hugo and Eduardo Pulenta decided to build their own winery. Their 135 hectares of high quality vineyards enjoy perfect climatic conditions, located at an altitude of 980m with melting ice from the Andes Mountains providing a natural irrigation system. Pulenta's first vintage was 2002.
Whereas the La Flor wines are immediately delicious and fresh, bottled and released after 3 months in oak, the Estate reds see 12 months in new French oak as well as 12 months ageing in bottle before release. The top wine is the Gran Corte, an impressive blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Merlot, Petit Verdot and Tannat.
Manual harvest and selection of bunches and grapes in the winery. 2 hour pre-fermentative maceration between 5 and 8 ºC. Alcoholic fermentation, 50% in stainless steel tanks and 50% in French oak barrels. 50% of the wine goes through spontaneous malolactic fermentation in barrels, 50% does not. Oak aging for 10 months in new French barrels.
Lemon-yellow with bright green hues, aromas mainly tropical fruits typical of a proper fruit maturity, made complex by the chocolate and vanilla notes given by the aging in new French oak.
