Caffo Antica Distilleria’s official story begins in 1915, when Giuseppe Caffo acquired a distillery in Santa Venerina, Sicily, although he’d been distilling herbs since 1890, when he first started distilling pomace on the side of the volcanic Mount Etna. Today, third generation master distiller Giuseppe Giovanni Caffo leads the company as Chairman, with his son Nuccio as CEO.
Classified as an amari molto aromatici, or very aromatic bitter, Amaro del Capo incorporates 29 beneficial and medicinal herbs, flowers, fruits and roots from the rich land of Calabria. These are harvested throughout the year and processed separately using a combination of cold and hot maceration, distillation and aromatisation over 45-60 days. These are blended together with sugar and neutral alcohol and then filtered and bottled.
