Bodega Martin Alonso was created in the Cidacos Valley in 1992. This land is located at around 600-700 meters above sea level, but due to the Cidacos Valley influence and the microclimate of this area it's possible to grow vines.
Martin Alonso and his partner Gloria Plaza Medina farm, Organically 20 small plots across 12 acres in the Rioja Oriental Subregion. Their method is an eclectic one open to new ideas. Based on 22 years of experience, and after several fails and successes and above all, a long learning time, Martin Alonso has achieved a simple and effective method that improves and regenerates the soil. From these grapes he produces a classic Rioja without oak - Viña Ilusion.
Vineyards
Organically farmed vines grown on a small plot of land in the Eastern, Rioja Oriental region.
Vinification
The grapes are hand-harvested and only wild yeasts are used during fermentation then rested in concrete to retain the fruits purity.
Tasting Notes
Rioja "Viña Ilusion" is best described by its expression of black fruits, and by the hints of floral and red fruits aromas in the background. Refreshing and fruity attack, followed by notes of fruits like plums and cherry, and a good balance between acidity and ripe tannins.
Great with roasted venison loin with prunes, rioja-style lamb and potatoes with chorizo or poached cod with garlic and tomato. Lovely served slightly chilled in summer with kebabs cooked over coals.
