The Arran Distillery is situated in Lochranza village on the North side of the beautiful Isle of Arran. In Scotch terms this is a young distillery with production starting on 17th August 1995. The area is home to some of the purest water in all of Scotland – every drop of Arran Single Malt starts its life as rainwater which pools at Loch na Davie in the beautiful hills behind the distillery.
The purity of the water means that Arran can create a clean, sweet dram which is entirely natural and unadulterated. They never add caramel colouring or strip flavour out through chill filtration.
Arran enjoys a warm microclimate – the atmosphere of sea breezes and clear mountain air, together with the warm flow of the Gulf Stream is ideal for the speedy maturation of single malts.
After initially aging in traditional oak casks for approximately 8 years, The Arran Single Malt in this bottling was finished in a selection of Port casks sourced from an artisan producer of this iconic Portuguese fortified wine.
The maturation process was monitored under the watchful eye of the Master Distiller, to ensure that the Port casks and the intrinsic character of The Arran Single Malt partnered with each other perfectly. The end result is a combination that's full of charm and rich flavour, and a wonderful way to discover more about the Arran range of Single Malts.
