Broccardo I Tre Pais Barolo

Broccardo is a family-run winery located in Monforte d’Alba and managed today by Filippo, Laura and Federica Broccardo. Since 2009, the three siblings have lead the production philosophy, handed down to them by their parents, grandparents and great-grandparents. Their family traditions continue: a great sense of gratitude towards the land and the use of working techniques in the vineyard always respecting the territory.

The property consists of 13 hectares of vineyards that extend between the municipalities of Monforte d’Alba with the Cru San Giovanni and Bricco San Pietro, Barolo with the Cru Paiagallo and Novello with the Cru Ravera. Production is focused on Barolo DOCG, but Langhe DOC Nebbiolo, Barbera d’Alba DOC, Dolcetto d’Alba DOC, Langhe Arneis DOC and Langhe Rosato DOC are also produced.

Thanks to the experience of three generations before them, Broccardo produces wines with a young heart, with strong roots in tradition.

Three siblings… Filippo, Laura and Federica decide to collect everything that has been handed down to them by their parents, grandparents and great-grandparents: respect for the land, that of the Langhe, love for a job that gives no respite, work of the vineyard in respect of the territory, and they have bottled it for you, so that you can taste it in the right philosophy of life: “Nunc est bibendum, nunc pede libero pulsanda tellus”- Now one must drink, and with one’s foot strike the earth in freedom – Horace, Odes, I, 37, 1.

From a careful selection of the grapes, the fine wines of the Langa are born, in particular Barolo DOCG, Langhe DOC Nebbiolo, Barbera d ‘Alba DOC, Dolcetto d’Alba DOC, Langhe DOC Arneis and Langhe DOC Rosato. Since 2014 the cellar has been part of the area that has become a UNESCO heritage site.

From the 2016 harvest, the wine is obtained with low environmental impact viticultural and oenological techniques.

Nebbiolo,

Grapes are picked from vines averaging 25 years of age grown in a versatile soil consisting of sand, silt and clay.

Hand harvesting was carried out in early October after which the grapes underwent fermentation at 28°c with an average maceration period of 20 days. Malolactic fermentation in stainless steel followed maturation in French and Slavonian barrels of varying size and age for 24 months.

The wine is a beautiful red colour with orange highlights increasingly pronounced as it ages. Spicy oak aromas of vanilla and liquorice. The palate is immediately fresh and rich, then soft and balanced. A pleasant Barolo with hints of citrus and refined tannins.

If you can get it, drink with stuffed pigeon or mature cheeses, rich red meats.
