Calmel & Joseph Caramany Cotes Du Roussillon

Founded in 1995, Calmel & Joseph is a maison de negoce specializing in Languedoc-Roussillon wines from private wineries from across the region. Over the years, they have built close personal relationships with a large number of growers from all appellations. Convinced of the extraordinary potential of this region, oenologist, Laurent Calmel, and Jerome Joseph work together on the vinification, blending and ageing of wines with the common purpose of demonstrating the little known yet unique quality of these Mediterranean terroirs. As well as their desire to produce high quality wines consistent with their terroirs, they are committed to making wines which reflect their convictions and experience.

Vinification

Selection of grapes grown naturally, without pesticides, with the strictest respect for the vine and its environment. Blend made during vatting of 40% Syrah - 30% Carignan - 30% Grenache. Grapes destemmed but not crushed. 2 pumping over in the air followed by light wetting of the cap during the alcoholic fermentation. Slow and not brutal vatting for four weeks.

Aging of 100% of the cuvee in barrels of 2 wines for 12 months.

Tasting Notes

Crimson red colour with brilliant reflections. The nose is intense, with woody notes mixed with aromas of black fruits such as fig, blackcurrant, blackberry but also black olive. The palate is powerful and unctuous, with well-integrated tannins. We can distinguish an attack on aromas of dried fruits, laurel and grilled chestnut on the finish. The 2019 vintage was very healthy with a nice balanced maturity. On the palate, as in the previous vintage, we find these truffle, mocha and dark chocolate notes. The altitude of this terroir brings a lot of verticality to this wine, which predicts a very good aging potential.
