Cascadia Syrah is produced by a family owned and operated winery and vineyard, situated in the heart of the Yakima Valley â€“ Washington Stateâ€™s oldest established AVA. The vineyard enjoys an enviable position on Cascadia mountain, where the tough conditions create grapes which are packed with amazing flavours.
Washington State may be fairly new on the wine radar, but it's certainly here to stay if all their wines are as good as this. It's plush, ripe fruit flavours are wrapped up in a satin shawl. If you normally like Malbec, give this a try. If you're cooking with smoke, be it a BBQ or a fire pit, this will deliver a delicious edge.
Soils are basalt with loam and sand and all vines are trained to a single cordon. Average cropping is 4 tons per acre.
Cold soaked for 72 hours, then heated up and inoculated with a RhÃ´ne style yeast strain. Extraction is fairly vigorous at first, giving the fermentation a delastage followed by twice daily pumpovers with air inclusion. Fermented dry in the skins then gently pressed. After a short settling period, the wines were then sent to French oak barrels and inoculated for Malo-lactic fermentation. During MLF, the lees were stirred twice a month and topped. The wine is topped twice a month as well.
20% new French oak 40% 3 year old French oak and 40% Neutral French oak. Currently aged for 14 months in barrels.
This dark concentrated Syrah possesses flavours of dark berry, clove and white pepper, coating the palate with a plush round mouthfeel and leading to a silky-smooth finish.
Perfect served with a grilled steak, hearty stew or simple pasta dishes.
