Chateau Buisson-Redon Bordeaux

It’s nearly 100 years since Louis Sèze acquired the Fronsac estate of Château Mayne-Vieil, one of our top choices! Since then, Roger and now Bertrand Sèze have expanded the estate which today includes Château Buisson-Redon - a 15ha enclave of AOC Bordeaux. On this gently sloping vineyard of clay-loam soils, planted mainly with Merlot and Cabernet Franc, yields are naturally limited to boost the intensity of the wines.

Château Buisson-Redon uses permanent grass cover between the rows of vines to reduce the need for herbicide sprays and also to reduce the compaction of the soil as fewer passes by tractor are required. The increased competition for water and nutrients also reduces the vigour of the vines, thus reducing the need for green harvesting, reducing yields and increasing the concentration of the grapes. The château has HVE 3 accreditation. This certification recognises a high level of commitment to protecting and enriching the environment with the focus on biodiversity conservation, plant protection strategy, management of fertiliser use and management of water.

Merlot, Cabernet Franc

This 30 year old vineyard directly neighbours the Fronsac AOC and is planted with 60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet Franc which is also the grape split on the blend.

Traditional Bordeaux winemaking techniques are used with partial ageing in oak barrels to bring smoothness and elegance to this wine.

This is honest right-bank Bordeaux.

Lovely ripe cassis fruit and plenty of it with some warm woodspice, and cigar box. Very approachable but still proper Bordeaux rouge. The palate is medium-bodied and structured with round, warm fruit and a velvety finish.

A versatile food wine - try with sausages, charcuterie, hard farmhouse cheeses, as well as pork, lamb or beef.
