Producer Information

Château de Lussac is was founded in 1876 and has always been a family property. It was bought by Griet Van Malderen-Laviale and her husband, Hervé, in 2000. Ever since, they’ve completely revamped the vineyard and practice sustainable winemaking. They strive to meet and exceed expectations with consistently sophisticated releases.

Production

The vineyard, like the winemaking equipment has been refurbished. And today Chateau de Lussac produces some of the best wines in the Saint Emilion region, on a terrain of clay and loam.

The 2016 vintage is a blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc. The wine is aged in 50% new French oak barrels and 50% used French oak for around 16 months.

Tasting Notes

The nose is fruity, elegant, racy and harmonious. It reveals notes of crushed cassis and small notes of crushed blackberry associated with small touches of blueberry, crushed strawberry as well as hints of violet, cardamom, toasted hints and an imperceptible touch of vanilla. The palate is fruity, mineral, racy, elegant and offers a beautiful finesse of the grain, precision, minerality, a good guideline as well as a small tension. On the palate this wine expresses notes of black cherry, cassis and small notes of blackberry associated with small touches of crunchy / juicy red berries, violet as well as a very discreet touch of cornflowers and liquorice / spices. There are hints of cardamom, flowers, blond tobacco. Good length. Tannins are fine, elegant and structured.

Try it with roast beef or a decadent cheese board.
