Crama De Matei Rosturi Merlot Cabernet Feteasca Neagra

Located in the eastern expanse of Dealu Mare, Crama DeMatei is a hidden gem bathed in sunlight and gently kissed by the wind, the fertile land creates a climate that nurtures a perfect balance between humanity and nature. The winery is built around the special terroir of three 40 years old vineyards, Tegăneanu, Dumbala and Zorilor, in the well known Romanian wine region of Dealu Mare, close to the city of Buzău. DeMatei owns 80 hectares of old vines offering tremendous potential for high-quality wine making. Clay, gravel and limestone soils shape the complex and intense personality of the wines renowned for their exceptional quality, continually raising industry standards year after year.

Rosturi is a Romanian word with deep meaning, roughly translated as goals and purpose. It embodies a philosophical concept combining the "reason and joy for living" reflecting the depth and consistency of this wine, conveying the idea that wine tells stories and carries profound significance.

Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Feteasca Neagra

The grapes are picked manually and carefully selected on sorting tables when arriving at the winery. The maceration of grapes takes between 5 and 8 days at a controlled temperature of 16°C. The alcoholic fermentation is controlled at 26°-28°C for 10-12 days followed by warm maceration (thermo maceration) between 5 and 8 days. 50% of the wine was matured in used French oak barrels for 4-6 months while the other half was kept in stainless steel and then blended together.

Ripe black cherries, blackberries, and blueberries complemented by nuances of spices (cloves, cinnamon, liquorice), coffee and a hint of vanilla. Great textured and generous bodied red dominated by black cherries and forest fruit notes alongside dark chocolate and spices. Rich and powerful but round and subtle at the same time with fine well-integrated tannins and long finish.

This is a big, powerful wine and deserves to be paired with big flavours. Think steak, the bigger the better!
