Domaine Des Deux Roches Saint-Veran

Childhood friends Christian Collovray and Jean-Luc Terrier each grew up in a family of winemakers and shared a bond from a young age. They became closer still, when they later married sisters Brigitte and Florence, also from a winemaking family. The friends now boast two properties, Domaine des Deux Roches near Mâcon and Altugnac in the Languedoc.

This domaine is based in the village of Davayé. Their 50 hectares of vineyards largely lie between the twin escarpments of Solutré and Vergisson and showcase the diverse terroirs of this region. The wines of Deux Roches are known for their drinkability and offer great value for money. Always looking to achieve the highest possible quality for their wines, they achieved the High Environmental Certification in 2017. So are now working towards becoming certified organic.

Chardonnay,

This cuvée is a selection of parcels located in the heart of the Saint-Véran appellation, around Davayé, near the Roches de Solutré and Vergisson. These chalky Jurassic-era soils are perfect for expressing the Chardonnay grape. A rich and ripe Saint-Véran, full of vivacity. Its great character and beautiful typicity are universally acclaimed. This was the first wine produced at Deux Roches in 1983.

After harvesting, the grapes are gravity-fed into pneumatic presses. The pressing process is slow and lengthy to gently extract the juice and preserve its aromatic finesse. The must is then cooled and decanted. Vinification takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. Depending on the vintage, malolactic fermentation is either encouraged or not. The wine is aged on its fine lees until spring. From harvest to bottling, Deux Roches minimize the use of additives such as SO2.

Saint Veran Les Terres Noires, Domaine Des Deux Roches has a lovely forward and expressive peachy fruit style. A medium oaked chardonnay with lemon and butter and a touch of honeysuckle on the nose. Soft and creamy with plenty of body and texture.

Great with creamy sea food dishes, roast chicken or a simple chicken kiev.
