Guy Saumaize, a second generation producer has 13 hectares of mostly Chardonnay (and a little Pinot Noir) in the AC's of Macon Davaey, St Veran and Pouilly-Fuisse. Specific selection based on the terroir (clay and limestone) and seperate vinification allow Guy to make expressive wines of true depth and quality, either from single vineyard sites as in the St Veran or a blend of sites in the Pouilly-Fuisse Grande Reserve.
Grapes grown on limestone and clay soils.
Fermented in barrique, this wine then spent 12 months in a mixture of new and older French oak.
A quite rich Burgundian white that reveals finesse and balance throughout. Creamy and buttery with a lovely blob of oak that adds a slightly nutty character to this beautiful wine. Rich but restrained, there is a real elegance and sense of quality that shines through till the end.
A versatile white that will drink beautifully with poultry, fish and hearty salads.
