Domaine Trilles Calignan Vieille Vigne

Domaine Trilles is located in the South of France (Pyrenees-Orientales 66), in the town of Tresserre, known as the "village of witches".

Established on the soil of Aspres, the vineyard extends over forty hectares, from the foothills of the Pyrenees, towards the sunny plain of Roussillon.

It is on this quality terroir that Jean-Baptiste Trilles produces his wines. Jean-Baptiste Trilles comes from a family of winegrowers for several generations. In 2000, he also set up as a winegrower.

Passionate about wine and with his viticulture-oenology diploma in his pocket, this winemaker at heart embarked on the adventure of wine and vinified his first cuvees in 2007, including the Domaine's flagship cuvee, Incantation.

Two years later, he concretized his project to create his cellar in the town of Tresserre.

Carignan,

The vineyard extends over forty hectares spread over several communes of the Aspres, meaning "arid" in Catalan, are the first foothills of the Canigou.

The vineyard is shaped by the Tramontana, a powerful, dry wind, the mists of Spain and the whims of the Mediterranean.

The vines are planted in clay soils where pebbles and sand intermingle. The old vines are gobelet pruned. The youngest vines are pruned in cordon de royat.

Jean-Baptiste grows traditional Mediterranean grape varieties: Grenache, Carignan, Syrah, Mourvedre, Muscats, but also less traditional grape varieties such as Sauvignon blanc and Cabernet Sauvignon. Yields are limited by the age of the old vines and by green harvesting, which we carry out in July when necessary.

Domaine Trilles has been in Organic Farming since 2021. It was in 2018 that Jean-Baptiste decided to concretize the commitment to sustainable agriculture that respects the terroir. Trilles have not used herbicides on their vines since 2007. Weeding is done mechanically (using interstocks) or manually for young vines.

The Domaine Trilles cellar is located in Tresserre. The wines are made with the greatest care in a brand new cellar, facing the Canigou "Sacred Mountain of the Catalans".

The cellar is arranged in two spaces: a space for vinification, equipped with stainless steel and fiber vats. A space for aging with its barrels, truncated conical vat, tuns and demi-muid.

Made from a small parcel of 100 year old bush vines, this wine is a wonderful example of what can be achieved from old Carignan vines. Full red fruit flavours are complemented by a softness and roundness derived from ageing in old oak barrels.

Enjoyable on its own. Perfect with a steak or roast lamb.
