False Bay Rosé

Named after Cape Town's False Bay, geographically on the other side of the city to Table Bay - it's this large sweeping bay that's in full view from the famous Waterkloof estate where the wine is made. The False Bay range further extends the property's portfolio, with wines that offer character and capture the Cape terroir and place at an affordable, everyday price. Fruit is sourced from across the Cape and the wines are crafted by a passionate team led by winemaker Nadia Barnard, a traditionalist at heart and custodian of the Waterkloof Cellar.

Vineyards

Vinification
False Bay Rosé is produced from Cinsault and Mourvédre grapes. They prefer Rhône varietals when it comes to producing the Rosé as they believe these varietals impart elegant tannins to the wines and ensure a well rounded wine. After intensive viticultural research, old Cinsault vineyards in the Riebeek area clinched the deal while a small portion of Mourvédre from Elgin and Stellenbosch adds further complexity to this dry Rosé delight. Made by Waterkloof's talented young Cellarmaster Nadia Barnard. From the Vintage_2016 vintage they upgraded the fruit source for this wine, with the grapes now coming primarily from the more coastal hills of Stellenbosch, in addition to The Swartland. Our whole bunch Cinsault/Mourvédre Rosé is not cobbled together from off-cuts of leftover red and white wine. Nor is it made from over-cropped red grapes pressed aggressively to maximise juice yield and confected aromas. Balanced grapes come from low yielding, coastal vineyards (mainly old), hand-harvested then delicately wholebunch basket pressed for only the purest juice. The juice is fermented spontaneously with wild yeast and left on lees for a minimum of six months before bottling. A fine wine that happens to be the palest of pink. No additions other than sulphur as a preservative. Grown, made and bottled in South Africa.

Tasting Notes
Old bush vine Cinsault forms the backbone of this 'proper' Rosé. A pale, spicy and textural Rosé mostly sourced from bush-vine Cinsault with summer fruits on the palate and a lovely clean, dry and finish.
