Kennedy Sons of Eden Barossa GSM

Sons of Eden specialises in varieties that the Barossa produces to the highest world standard such as Shiraz, Grenache and Mourvédre from the Barossa Valley and Riesling, Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon from the Eden Valley.

The winery takes its name from the two partners, Corey Ryan and Simon Cowham, who both learnt and refined their crafts over the years in the vineyards and cellars of the Eden Valley, the Barossa's high country. Their passion is dedicated to crafting wines of unquestionable quality from the grapes of some of the Barossa's most treasured vineyards.

Grenache, Shiraz, Mouvedre

The Kennedy is a classic blend of old vine Barossa Valley Grenache, Shiraz and Mourvedre varieties. Named as a tribute to the legendary Barossa Vigneron’s who pioneered the planting of the old treasured vineyards, which the Barossa enjoys today. The Grenache fruit is the ‘soul’ of this blend and is from an exceptionally low yielding 60+ year-old Light Pass Vineyard. Originally planted by the Kennedy Family, with ownership eventually being passed onto the charismatic Leo ‘Joe’ KENNEDY who nurtured the vines for many years, selling his prized fruit to local winemakers.

48% Grenache, 32% Shiraz, 20% Mourvedre.

The Grenache, Shiraz and Mourvedre varieties were all hand harvested and fermented separately. To aid colour, tannin and flavour extraction the three parcels were cold soaked for a short period prior to fermentation. Post ferment the Grenache and Mourvedre vessels were left on skins for an additional 11 days before being pressed straight to large oak puncheons for maturation. These parcels were matured in oak for 12 months with minimal intervention, before being blended, naturally clarified and then bottled.

Deep crimson in colour and bursting with dark cherry, red-licorice and complex savoury spice aromas. The palate is very approachable, melding ripe fleshy fruits and chewy textural tannins this wine has excellent length and richness. Enjoy upon release or carefully cellar for the medium term.

The bottle age makes this an excellent winter warmer, drink with your Sunday lunch or a warming fire.
