Product Information

Loch Lomond is probably Scotland's most versatile distillery in terms of the number of different styles of whisky produced for different purposes on one site. In addition to its two traditional pot stills and a Coffey still, the distillery is also equipped with four Lomond stills, these have a traditional pot still base, but with the addition of a rectifying column instead of the traditional swan necks. Varying the distillation techniques has enabled the distillery to produce no less than eight different single malts (plus numerous grain whiskies and blends) of different styles on one site.

The Open Special Edition 2023 is crafted in the shadow of Ben Lomond, to celebrate the 151st Open at Royal Liverpool, England.

Michael Henry, master blender, has crafted this exceptional single malt with Colin Montgomerie, Loch Lomond's gold ambassador, to explore the influence of elegant Spanish Rioja Alta Reserva casks on the Loch Lomond signature style. A range of casks have been hand-selected by Michael for finishing in Rioja Alta Reserva to complement the signature distillery style with additional depth of flavour.

These rich, exceptional red wine casks help create a whisky that has notes of red berry, orchard fruit and creamy vanilla with dark chocolate that complements the soft smoke on the finish.

Non chill-filtered, bottled at 46% and presented in a carton bearing Colin Montgomerie's signature.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Floral notes of rose, soft fruits, peach and pear.

Palate: Red berry and orchard fruit. Raspberry and peach, creamy vanilla and dark chocolate.

Finish: Medium length, a touch of smoke gives way to lasting fruit notes.
