Piedra Prohibida Garnacha

Estancia Piedra was born from a family dream, a family who wanted to turn their passion into reality: to produce excellent quality wines.

The vineyard was planted in 1968, and is the largest parcel of old vines in the Toro D.O. The Estancia Piedra team of highly qualified professionals ensure that their passion for wine is reflected every day in a quality product, a wine that represents the character of the Duero region.

Their winery, situated in the Guareña valley in the heart of the Toro D.O., specializes in enotourism.
Piedra wines have been created to delight the senses, to celebrate life and friendship. With a wide range in continuous expansion, these wines adapt to the tastes of a wide variety of palates. From young and natural wines made without sulphites or any additive treatment, to wines that appreciate the value of time and maturity, which express the best of a very old vineyard in the Toro region – “Wines proud of their origin.”

Garnacha,

Looking for the Garnacha grapes in the Bocarraje vineyard, a sea of Tinta de Toro vines, is like someone looking for a treasure that has finally been found. This Grenache wine comes from old vines, un-grafted, with more than 50 years of age, where various strains of this variety appear, as was the tradition in ancient times.

Manual harvesting in 20kg crates, over a fortnight in September. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel temperature controlled tanks at 25ºC. Malolactic fermentation in French Oak barrels followed by 4 months in French oak barrels and 6 months in bottle prior to release.

“The juicy, fresh berry aromas capture scented floral notes that overlay the vibrant deep raspberry fruit. This juicy accent continues on the palate, which reveals a generous, soft-textured fruit – all summer berry notes with hints of herb and spice. This is a mouth-filling, ripe Garnacha, that walks the line between exuberance and restraint. The palate boasts that more-ish baked dark fruit character that reminds me of the Southern Rhône. Supple, pure and already drinking well; the Prohibida will no doubt develop over the next five years, but there is no need to hold back. 2020-2025”.
