RED SOUTH AFRICAN WINE CASE

We have curated two wine cases to supplement our South African Season that celebrates the wine of South Africa, an often underated winemaking nation who have some of the most underappreciated Bordeaux blends, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay & Chenin Blanc from across the globe.

Strange Kompanjie Cinsault
28 year old, dry grown bush vine Cinsault from organically farmed blocks. From mature, unirrigated bush vines in Paarl, this old dame is remarkably light on her feet. Inestimably life-affirming and a pure joy to drink. Alluringly bright with aromas of fresh strawberry, juicy cherry and crunchy red fruit. The palate reflects these with vibrant, tangy berry fruit, fresh acidity and gently mineral notes which marry together with delicate finesse.


Bon Courage Estate Blend
Neatly tucked between the life-sustaining waters of the Breede River and the impressive Langeberg mountain range lies Bon Courage Wine Estate. This prestigious award-winning family-run estate has been the recipient of many awards and received wide acclaim both locally and internationally for its wines and is truly a versatile estate. An absolutely divine nose, which captures the fruitiness of the black grape. Tones of tobacco combined with walnuts and berries make this an outstanding blend. Soft oak gives this blend body and a smooth texture.


Spice Route Grenache
It wouldn't be a Latitude case of wine without a Grenache in there. Charles Back was a pioneer in Swartland when he started Spice Route in 1998, "without Charles the Swartland would still be regarded as a rural backwater" wrote Tim Atkin, who awarded the winery 'Cru Bourgeois' status in his South Africa Classification in 2019. Today, the region is the source of many of South Africa's outstanding wines, yet Spice Route remains one of the best and most credible producers. This elegantly built wine benefits from a lightness which does not hinder its complexity. 


Coterie by Wildeberg
The Wildeberg wines express the most captivating Franschhoek Valley fruit. In our Wildeberg Terroirs bottlings we look beyond our home to a clutch of exceptional sites of other origin. An approachable wine of deceptively serious quality, a satisfyingly ripe, richly flavoured blend of Cab Franc and Malbec with great purity of fruit. Vibrant and expressive nose of crushed fruits, black cherry, wild plum and blackberry, with brown spice and star anise. Generous and richly fruity with concentrated damson fruit backed by juicy acidity and a savoury palate with subtle, gently spicy oak.


Klippenkop Syrah
The word klippen is a geographical term for an outcrop of rock, whilst kop in Afrikaans translates as either a hillock or a head. Syrah is by nature a vigorous grower, so a 6 wire Perold system is used to manage the canopy. Planted in deep Karoo and shale soils that are rich in lime. This rich lime content ensures a healthy growing medium. This full bodied wine shows freshly crushed black pepper aromas with hints of cinnamon and cloves on the nose with lots of brambly red berry fruit, rich mulberry and well integrated vanilla tones.


Tokara Cabernet Sauvignon
Tokara is a picture perfect destination which offers visitors a unique combination of award-winning wines, a range of olive oils and a five year old pot still brandy. Situated 50km to the east of Table Mountain, the TOKARA "home farm" is rested on the Simonsberg side of the Banghoek Valley, at elevations of between 350m and 550m. Aromas of dark plum, subtle cassis and blackberry on the nose complimented by underlying notes of five spice and the slightest hint of vanilla. The palate is packed with delicious dark fruit interwoven in spice and light toast notes from the barrels.
