Established 1933, the Mottura estate is nestled between the clay hills and the Calanchi Valley of Tuscia to the west and the fertile plains of the Tiber " that border with Umbria " to the east. On 120 hectares of land, the Mottura family work as custodians of a heritage of biodiversity and profound winemaking tradition. Here the art of viticulture merges with science and passion, giving life to white wines with a great identity, history and character: the golden and enveloping complexity of Grechetto, resulting from the selection of the familys centuries-old vines, the fresh and vibrant depths of Procanico produced with the companys historical classic method. Owner, winemaker and all round great guy, Giuseppe Mottura is mayor of Orvieto to boot! They were the first Lazio producer ever to win a prestigious 'Tre Bicchieri award for white wine in the Gambero Rosso guide back in 1996 … they have since won the award a total of 18 more times.

After a five-year transition period, in 1996 the estate was officially recognized for its organic practices. Since then, the company has vigorously embraced a cultivation ethos that promotes ecological respect and balance. Techniques such as spontaneous grassing, the absence of chemical fertilizers and the adoption of natural solutions such as chestnut tannin and mist-sprayers with recovery system, marked a new era in the companys history. These practices, carefully carried out by a dedicated team, are aligned with the commitment to take care of the land in a loving and respectful manner. Nowadays, as the rules that norm organic farming are stabilised, the attention is shifting toward a broader conception of sustainability, encompassing environmental, economic, ethical and social dimensions. Planted on a mainly volcanic, part of the volcanic complex of the Vulsini mountains and Lake Bolsena, with alluvial material resulting from the flooding of the Tiber River in a composition 40% Clay, 40% Sand and 20% Silt.
