THE LOST EXPLORER TEQUILA & MEZCAL
Wednesday 4th November - 6PM
We're very excited to host another agave evening with you all, this time courtesy of The Lost Explorer who are a producer of Mezcal, and as of the last couple of years, have been producing Tequila in the lowlands of Jalisco.
I (Mark) first tried The Lost Explorer Salmiana when out and about, instantly falling in love with it. Quickly I put it to the team that we should look to bring them into our agave selection. They have a unique approach to labelling their expressions, unlike whisky which has age statements for time spent in oak maturing, The Lost Explorer have stamped their expressions with the age of the agave at the time of harvesting. A lovely titbit for agave enthusiasts as this gives the consumer an assurance that each varietal has been given the time it needs to reach ripeness. Other such quality assurances are things such as NOM numbers, 100% agave and the Artesanal & Ancestral labels that all give the buyer an idea of production methods before even tasting the liquid. As we were looking at stocking some of their Mezcal, the stars aligned when they produced and released their first Tequila with Maestro Tequilero Enrique de Colsa, formerly of Don Julio, a Master Distiller with three decades behind him. More recently we have taken their second tequila release onto our shelves, both are wonderful expressions of Tequila. The blanco carries an abundance of cinnamon, citrus and spice with a subtle prickly mouthfeel. The Reposado has a fascinating blend of casks, with Sauternes Dessert Wine Cask, Pedro Ximénez Sherry Cask and Bourbon Barrels which amount to a complex and persistent tequila, all about the vanilla profile here.
On this one off tasting evening, we will be working our way through their full range including: a welcome cocktail, 2 expressions of Tequila & 3 different expressions of Mezcal. They'll be presented by Latitude's good friend and agave enthusiast Adam Wilson. Adam has forgotten more than most know throughout his years working behind various bars and institutions across the globe, as well as helping to setup bars in 5 star hotels. Adam now works for Proof Drinks, who distribute The Lost Explorer along with a portfolio of brands you'll find on our shelves and at any decent bars or restaurants.
This should be a fantastic evening for anyone who already loves Tequila and/or Mezcal or for anyone who is new to the category, the agave expressions that we'll have on show perfectly showcase the breadth and diversity of agave and the production that goes into the finished product.

"The Lost Explorer began as a curiosity of time and earth
Every new day is filled with musings, mystery and magic as we masterfully fuse tradition with innovation to express Nature’s wisdom through flavour.
We started our journey making mezcal on the ancestral Miztec land in Valles Centrales, Oaxaca, with Maestro Mezcalero Fortino Ramos. Here, we grow our agaves 8-12 years to allow them to reach their ripest natural maturity in different parts of the arid, sun-soaked region. Making mezcal, there is no one-size-fits-all approach.
Each of our types of mezcal—Espadín, Tobalá, and Salmiana—vary in average size and innate flavour, each with its own personality and lifecycle we must care for.
We later ventured into the lowlands of Jalisco, where we brought our careful approach to make a masterful Tequila with Maestro Tequilero Enrique de Colsa.
For The Lost Explorer Tequila, our agaves spend 6 to 7 years soaking up the rich elements of the volcanic soil and surrounding terroir. Distilled in a dedicated facility, our small batch tequilas are not only crafted with care, but with the highest quality."
