Producer Information

One of the smallest producers we have Tubarão, (shark) makes amazing wines in very small quantities. This is effectively a shed and a caravan operation.

The Tubarão Wines project started in 2019 with the main objective of recovering and maintaining the vineyard culture in the masseira fields, between Póvoa de Varzim and Apúlia. In the same year they also started with a small production of red only from vines in branches (pergola). In their portfolio, they want to maintain classic production processes from the north coast of Portugal, from the vineyard to the winery. In 2024 they are going to start their first plantation, but without losing the link with the traditional production they have worked with so far.

Grapes

Vinhao, Loureiro

Production

Part of the Sustainable wine project. This cuvee is make with around 80% red Vinhão grapes and around 20% white Loureiro grapes.

Low intervention – Spontaneous fermentation, indigenous yeasts, Un-filtered wines, vegan friendly but without certification. Low sulphites - Average 4 mg/dm3.

Tasting Notes

Tubarao Red is a Minho region classic! With malolatic fermentation in bottle so that the wine can achieve the “fizz” that gives it a versatile, fresh and fun character to this wine.

The profile remains the classic red minhoto (typical red from Minho). The big change is in the label. They asked illustrator Sofia Ayuso for a new face and everyone was delighted with just the stylish writing. We think the shelves and photos will like it too.

To be enjoyed at a cooler temperature. Ideally, chill it with your whites. Drink with impromptu picnics, salami, cheese, bread and sardines, delightful.
