Founded in 1995, Calmel & Joseph is a maison de negoce specializing in Languedoc-Roussillon wines from private wineries from across the region. Over the years, they have built close personal relationships with a large number of growers from all appellations. Convinced of the extraordinary potential of this region, oenologist, Laurent Calmel, and Jerome Joseph work together on the vinification, blending and ageing of wines with the common purpose of demonstrating the little known yet unique quality of these Mediterranean terroirs. As well as their desire to produce high quality wines consistent with their terroirs, they are committed to making wines which reflect their convictions and experience.
Clay-limestone. The climate is typically Mediterranean, mild and sunny with little rainfall. The winters are mild, the summers hot and regular droughts help maintain healthy grapes.
60% Grenache Noir 40% Grenache Gris
The grapes are harvested twice at night. An early harvest to have freshness in the wine, then fifteen days later to have a good concentration and more varietal aromas. Total destemming followed by maceration for 6 hours at 5°C. Fermentation is thermo-regulated at 15°C. The fine lees are added during the racking before alcoholic fermentation in order to complicate the structure in the mouth. No malolactic fermentation.
Superb pale pink colour and very bright. The nose is fruity and floral, with aromas of rose, pomegranate, white flowers (peach, apricot) and wild strawberry; menthol and aniseed notes harmoniously complete the aromatic palette. The palate is superbly balanced, greedy and lively at the same time. Beautiful citrus notes appear with a hint of fine liquorice on the finish. A rose of pure pleasure, very typical thanks to the presence of Grenache gris which will give a lot of pleasure in its early youth but which will keep a very nice hold for the next 2 to 3 years.
