Vinha Maria Dao Reserva White

Cabriz is a leading winery in the Dao region founded in 1990. Excellent value for money and known as a brand related to high quality wines in Portugal. They are from the iconic region of Dao in northern Portugal which is known for its magnificent mountains (Estrela, Caramulo and Bussaco) and the unique microclimate that is in symbiosis with its indigenous grape varieties. Cabriz excel in this beautiful area in making wines of unique character, fantastic value and excellent gastronomic potential.

The Vinha Maria Reserva Red was created to be the big brother of the entry level Vinha Maria Red. The goal was always to keep the fresh, modern and juicy profile with a bold extra layer of complexity! This has been fantastically well achieved whilst keeping the price low for the quality of the wine.

Vinification

Dao has many white grape varieties and is often recognised, as producing complex whites that benefit from light barrel ageing. The 3 grapes (Encruzado, Bical & Malvasia-Fina) are close friends and blend well giving the fruit and freshness. This is freshness is then rounded by half the juice being fermented in oak.

After destemming, soft pneumatic pressing & natural static clarification, the juice is then fermented at 15°C in order to preserve fruit, freshness & the natural Dao terroir essence. Fifty percent of the wine was fermented in French oak barrels. With 3 months of Batonnage in barrel and 2 months in bottle, with great ageing potential!

Tasting Notes

The Reserva White has an intense and predominant white flower aroma, with peach & citric notes. It also shows an impressively structured complexity on the palate, despite it being so fresh in style. Fresh tropical fruit, mingling with a well balanced and distinct acidity, making it a gastronomic wonder!

Ideal with soft cheese, delicate fish dishes with creamy sauces, eggs benedict, roast white meats, camembert cheeses, nut roasts, white and red meats based on Mediterranean, Chinese, Indian and African cuisine.
