WHITE SOUTH AFRICAN WINE CASE
We have curated two wine cases to supplement our South African Season that celebrates the wine of South Africa, an often underated winemaking nation who have some of the most underappreciated Bordeaux blends, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay & Chenin Blanc from across the globe.
This case includes:
Power Lines White Field Blend
Power Lines represents two neighbouring parcels of vines that winemaker JD was keen to work with after tasting other field blends from around the world; the finished wines speaking more of the region than a single varietal can. The name Power Lines comes from the large pylons which dominate the horizon and actually connect a few of the vineyards we work with despite the large distances between them. Typically ripe tropical and apple notes are complemented with bright and crisp acidity. The wine is generous in texture and fruit character and although it will age gracefully thanks to its structure it has been made to be immediately drinkable in its relative youth.
The Tea Leaf Bush Vine Brew
The blend of grapes in this odd bush vine brew would most likely get you sent to the guillotine in the regimented appellations of France. In here you have the South African staple varietal of Chenin Blanc making up 80% of the blend, Chenin of course being a native varietal of the central stretches of the Loire Valley. The remaining 20% of the blend is made up of two rarer Southern superstars, Grenache Gris and Marsanne. The Chenin Blanc brings acidity to the blend with lively citrus characters. Grenache Gris with its pinky/grey skins offers up a medley of apples, granny smith all the way to pink lady. Marsanne provides an oily texture with notes of honey and wild flowers.
Iona Monopole Sauvignon Blanc
At 420m above sea-level, set high above the picturesque Elgin Valley Andrew Gunn founded Iona. It is here overlooking the Atlantic ocean that he has secured some of the coolest vineyards in the Cape. In a country where cool climate vineyards are like gold dust, these vineyards are veritable nuggets. Fragrance of pure white grapefruit, intense tropical fruit, ripe gooseberry and fleshy kiwi fruit over-lay Iona's distinctive herbal and floral undertone. The palate is keenly balanced showing cut green apples and lime marmalade followed by great minerality and length.
Green Flash Sunset Chardonnay
Inspired by the crystalline style of Chablis, the Green Flash Sunset is a collaboration between the fantastic winery of Wildeberg in the Franschhoek Valley, South Africa and their UK importer, Third Floor Wines. Franschhoek translates to the “French corner”, and it is here that a large number of French Huguenots settled in the 1600’s. The Huguenots were Protestant’s, fleeing religious persecution and finding respite in this zone of South Africa. Being French, they brought with them vines and the knowhow to make the wine that every Frenchman needs flowing though his veins.
Daschbosch Skin Contact
DaschBosch crafts elegant wines and experimental wines whilst upholding traditional methods of wine-making and craftsmanship, since 1754, when the farm land was granted by the Governor of the Cape of Good Hope, Rijk Tulbagh. Their wines reflect the vastness of the South African landscape and reflect the decades of vines growing in one place, in the unyielding sun, the cold winter rain, the storms and winds, on a mountain, on a plain somewhere which produces these delicate but powerful wines.
Circumstance Cape Coral Rose
Mourvedre is perfect for Waterkloof, with its head in the sun and feet in the sea, so Paul Boutinot has made it the most planted red grape on this biodynamic farm. Cape Coral Rosé has vindicated that decision, proving itself to be one of the finest rosés in The Southern Hemisphere. A fine pale-coloured rosé with delicate aromas of pomegranates and raspberry and a distinctive flintiness. There's finesse and elegance on the palate with flavours of soft red fruits, a gentle silky texture and a lingering fresh acidity on the finish.
These cases have been carefully curated and already discounted, and therefore do not qualify for any additional loyalty discount.
