Collection: SPANISH WINE CASES

WHITE CASE

Ameztoi Txakoli Blanco - The traditional Basque speciality, from Hondarribi Zuri grapevines planted on steep, exposed slopes overlooking the Atlantic Coast. Dry, very high in limey acidity, and bottled with a little carbonation it's a bright, briny, refreshing.

Jose Pariente Rueda Verdejo - Rueda is a plateau in the central Spanish Mountains, which is around 700 metres altitude. Cold nights and warm days are perfect ripening conditions for the native Verdejo grape variety. Certified organic and sustainably farmed: the acidity is fresh and elegant, minerality is crisp, stone fruit and melon with a hint of fennel: loves white fish.

La Huida Albarino - Rias Biaxas is on the Galician Coast, just North of the Portugese border. With an annual rainfall that's not unlike Manchester's, Albarino has been cultivated for centuries. Cool atlantic fogs and and high winds mean very low yields, resulting in wines that are crisp, fresh and complex: Aromatic and floral with apricot fruit and a hint of salinity.

Ontanon Vetiver Rioja Blanco - Bodegas Ontanon is a fifth generation family-owned estate in Rioja Oriental. Super-sustainably made, cultivation is organic, production is carbon-neutral. This Viura goes through 4 months oak aging: tropical fruit and exotic flowers on the nose, a hint of vanilla and brioche balanced with a crisp, lemon finish.

Enate Chardonnay 234 - Somontano is the North-Navarran region in the foothills of the Pyrenees with a wine making tradition going back to the Romans. Warm days encourage the ripeness of Chardonnay, while cool nights maintain acidity. A short cold-soak on the skins before fermentation adds body and juice. This is rich wiith tropical and stone fruit, boldly textured and juicy.

Borsao Seleccion Rosado - Proving that the shop mantra: "Grenache is the best grape", Borsao have been producing some of our favourite Garnachas for decades. Not only does the region of Campo de Borja produce world-beating reds , the roses from the region offer amazing value for money: 6 hours maceration for a salmon pink hue and silky texture, bright strawberry and red cherry fruit with subtle spice.

RED CASE

Oncedo Ribas Del Cua Bierzo - Bierzo is the North Western region where Galicia meets Castile. The red variety Mencia has always been famed for producing a lighter style of red but modern winemakers are controlling yields to increase concentration. Expect cassis fruit, a subtle nuttiness and spice, enhanced by 8 months in oak, and Mediterranean herbs: elegant and earthy.

El Escoces Volante Manga Del Brujo - Have I ever told you, "Grenache is the best grape"? At El Escoces Volante a Scottish MW, Norrel Robertson, has been working with some of the oldest Garnacha vineyards in Aragon for the last 2 decades. The Mango del Brujo is a blend of old vine Garnacha with a little Syrah and Bobal: expect earthy, dark fruit, herbacious qualities and soft, silkly tannins.

Bodegas Tobia Rioja Crianza - Tobia Cuvee is a Rioja blend of many elements: mostly Tempranillo with a little Garnacha sourced from 5 separate plots. Fermentation is delicate with a cold maceration and an element of whole-bunch, aging is in 2nd and 3rd use barrels for 12 months. The end result is a soft, velvety wine, with dried red fruit, pepper and baking spice notes.

Rippa Dorii Ribera Del Duero Crianza - Ribera del Duero is at 900 metres altitude. At this height Tinta del Pais (Tempranillo) grapes naturally produce a thicker skin, which give the wines a deeper, darker fruit and richer tannins. This Crianza sees 12 months in French and American oak (1/4 new), which softens these bold tannins and adds vanilla and sweet spice.

Finca Museum Vinea Tempranillo Crianza - Cigales is another mountainous region in Central Spain where Tempranillo has been cultivated for centuries. This comes from low yielding, 50 year old bush vines grown at 750m altitude. 14 months in a combination of American and French oak make for a deliciously complex red: berry fruited with mocha and balsamic notes, rich and velvety on the palate.

Juan Gil Monastrell 4 Meses - Monastrell is the Valencian name for Mourverdre, the red grape widely planted throughout Southern France and Catalunya. It revels in the maritime climate of Jumilla. From old bush vines at 700m altitude, this wine is stainless steel fermented with 4 months in oak to enhance the fruit: plum and blackcurrant with a little vanilla and spice, ripe and juicy.
