The Arran Distillery is situated in Lochranza village on the North side of the beautiful Isle of Arran. In Scotch terms this is a young distillery with production starting on 17th August 1995. The area is home to some of the purest water in all of Scotland, every drop of Arran Single Malt starts its life as rainwater which pools at Loch na Davie in the beautiful hills behind the distillery.
The purity of the water means that Arran can create a clean, sweet dram which is entirely natural and unadulterated. They never add caramel colouring or strip flavour out through chill filtration.
Arran enjoys a warm microclimate, the atmosphere of sea breezes and clear mountain air, together with the warm flow of the Gulf Stream is ideal for the speedy maturation of single malts.
For 'The Bothy' Quarter Cask and cask strength release, the whisky was initially matured in first-fill ex-Bourbon barrels for 7 years before being transferred for secondary maturation into smaller Quarter casks also made of the finest American oak for a further 2 years. The process of transferring our whisky into the smaller 125 litre sized casks for their final 2 years of maturation produces far greater contact between the whisky & oak and a faster, more intense maturation.
