The Arran Distillery is situated in Lochranza village on the North side of the beautiful Isle of Arran. In Scotch terms this is a young distillery with production starting on 17th August 1995. The area is home to some of the purest water in all of Scotland – every drop of Arran Single Malt starts its life as rainwater which pools at Loch na Davie in the beautiful hills behind the distillery.
The purity of the water means that Arran can create a clean, sweet dram which is entirely natural and unadulterated. They never add caramel colouring or strip flavour out through chill filtration.
Arran enjoys a warm microclimate – the atmosphere of sea breezes and clear mountain air, together with the warm flow of the Gulf Stream is ideal for the speedy maturation of single malts.
For this limited release, Arran Single Malt is matured in oak casks for eight years and is then 'finished' in a selection of Sauternes wine casks.
These Bordeaux sweet white wine casks are specifically selected by the Master Distiller from a talented small producer to ensure the notes from both wine and whisky make the perfect marriage. If you're looking for something that shows off the sweeter side of Arran Single Malt, this is perfect choice for you. It pairs beautifully with a creamy toffee or fudge based pudding.
Nose: Initially acacia honey but then opening up to apricots, bananas and pears. With time a floral elegance presents itself.
Palate: Sweet but cut with warm spice. Lemon zest announces itself with the addition of water and a slight saltiness plays with this dram's sweet character.
Finish: Seville orange, Sauternes and an ounce of honey in a crisp finish.
