Chateau des Demoiselles Castillon Cotes de Bordeaux – currently 2015 vintage, sits under the ‘Propeitaire Ducourt’ umbrella, a family that settled in Bordeaux back in 1858 and now own an astonishing 480 hectares of vines spread across 14 chateaux providing experience, expertise and knowledge second to none.

The ‘Demoiselles’ name derives from the Middle Ages when the property was run by nuns.  Situated between Saint-Emilion and Castillon-la-Bataille, the 36 hectare of vineyards sit on loamy soils, mainly Merlot with a small proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon.

Production

Cold maceration, temperature controlled fermentation and balanced ageing between tank and oak for 12 months enhanced by 12 months bottle age prior to release ensures the complex yet emanately approachable style of this wine.

Tasting Notes

A delicious Merlot dominated Bordeaux with delicate and complex aromas of red fruits, oaky vanilla and a hint of mocha. The palate is filled with velvety tannins, robust red fruits flavours and a beautifully rounded finish.

Great for steak and ale pie or a good cheese board.

Nolan - This is an old school, savoury Bordeaux, (despite the 14% ABV! What can you do, 2015 was a warm year).
Very punchy and tannic on the palate, you will probably want some food to drink with this. I went for Dexter beef rump steak rested with a tarragon, parsley and roasted garlic butter. It was fantastic, will do again.
