The story of Mr Black starts in 2013 with a chance meeting between Philip Moore, one of Australia's foremost distillers, and Tom Baker, coffee-nerd and designer. “Holy f**k, this is delicious", Tom exclaimed after taking a swig of Philip's coffee liqueur, “every bar world needs a bottle of this". Together, they founded Mr Black Roasters & Distillers in August 2013 with a simple mission: take Australia';s coffee culture into the night.
From humble beginnings, Mr Black has grown to encompass a collective of roasters, distillers, baristas and fanatics, preaching the virtues of coffee after dark.
Each and every bottle is made by hand at their coffee roastery and distillery just north of Sydney, Australia. Their roasters source specialty beans from the best growing regions to create complex spirits that are bold, balanced and unapologetically coffee, without compromise or equal.
Producing consistently concentrated cold brew and fine-tuning water composition, temperature and time are lifelong obsessions for both head of coffee, Detlef Mohr, and Master Distiller, Philip Moore. The difference between something good and something great, after all, comes down to the details.
Mr Black Cold Brew Coffee Liqueur is a bittersweet blend of top-grade Arabica coffees and Australian wheat vodka. The roasters source specialty beans from the best growing regions to create a complex liqueur that is bold, balanced and unapologetically coffee.
Nose: Freshly ground coffee. Lots of it. Plenty of vanilla too.
Palate: Continued coffee elements, with a focus on caramel and enjoyably bitter chocolate notes.
Finish: Espresso hints last with a little bit of sugar.
