Gary Regan is a USA cocktail authority, famous for his book, 'The Joy of Mixology' and generally being a much loved character in cocktail circles.
In the early ABV_1990's, Gary and his late wife were struggling to find a brand of orange bitters that suited their taste. Embarking on a task that he claimed "sounded like it might be fun" He found a recipe in a book from the ABV_1930's: 'The Gentleman's Companion' by Charles Baker. It took Gary 4 attempts to come up with a recipe that worked well, but when they tried to recreate it a year later the recipe didn't work quite so well.
Enter Mark Brown, president and C.E.O. of The Sazerac Company of New Orleans who they bumped into at the Bourbon Festival and Gary asked him if they would be interested in working together to develop a commercial brand of orange bitters.
After 6 attempts with a team of scientists from Sazerac, they came up with the recipe for Regans' Orange Bitters No.6 which was then launched in ABV_2000.
