Founded in 2014, Sliabh Liag Distillers is the first distilling company to set up in County Donegal in over 175 years. Situated on the Atlantic facing Sliabh Liag peninsula of Ireland, the An Dúlamán Gin Distillery and the Ardara Distillery aim to reclaim the county’s legendary (on occasion illicit) distilling heritage and revive the complex, smoky Irish whiskeys of days gone by. Whilst Ardara undergoes construction and aims to start its own whiskey production during 2021, the company has a growing portfolio of tremendous blended whiskeys and gins – which all began with the release of the much adored Ledgendary Silkie back in 2016.

Carefully crafted to honour the beautiful Donegal coastline and the magical creatures said to reside there, Silkie blended Irish whiskey aims to be just as beguiling as the Silkies themselves, with its soft mouth feel and its rich and warming flavour.

The Red Silkie is a limited release. Starting with the classic Silkie blend of double and triple distilled malt whiskies, both peated and unpeated, blended with soft grain whisky, the Red Silkie is then finished in a combination of red wine casks from Rioja and Ribera del Duero. Bottled with natural colour and without chill-filtration, this is a sweet and aromatic whiskey that carries notes of dry red wine.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Rounded notes of strawberry and blackcurrant, with vegetal peaty notes growing.

Palate: Toasted sugar, warm barley, more sweet strawberry, now with drying oak tannins.

Finish: Cooked fruit and a smidge of black pepper.
