The story of WhistlePig begins in 2007, with Raj Peter Bhakta buying a farm in Shoreham, Vermont, with the idea of creating some ace rye whiskey. Teaming up with Master Distiller Dave Pickerell, who was the Master Distiller at Maker’s Mark for 14 years, WhistlePig sourced a top quality, 100% rye whiskey from Canada, then finished and bottled it at the WhistlePig farm. The WhistlePig chaps are also growing their own rye grain on the farm and started distillation on the 4th of July, 2015.
The 10yo is made from rye whisky sourced in Canada before shipping to Vermont where it is aged in virgin American Oak. The whisky is then hand bottled on site.
Nose: Fresh peppermint and herbal thyme initially, with sweet vanilla and marzipan developing. Creamy butterscotch, raspberry jam and orange rind round it off.
Palate: Warm baking spices, nutmeg, cinnamon and allspice burst to life and are tempered by sweet muscovado sugar, bright oak and dark chocolate. Vanilla cola and caramel shortbread linger.
Finish: Medium-length, with warm rye spices, sweet malt and sour cherries.
