Keith Tulloch Semillon

There can be no wines in this list more highly acclaimed than those of Keith Tulloch. We are enthralled by their purity, intensity and uniquely defined style. James Halliday commented “I cannot remember being more impressed with an initial release of wines than those under the Keith Tulloch label. There is the same almost obsessive attention to detail, the same almost ascetic intellectual approach, the same refusal to accept anything but the best". For those who may have tasted any legendary Hunter Shiraz wines of the 40's, 50's and 60's, tasting many of the modern Hunter wines can be a depressing experience but Keith Tulloch is very different, adding to that great legacy with a series of wines that uniquely capture the exotic spice and hedonistic pleasure of dense and rich Shiraz fruit in a medium bodied wine that has the sensuous, subtle velvety texture of fine Burgundy.

Semillon,

Harvested from 40-year-old vines planted in deep alluvial gravelly sand at Pokolbin in the Hunter Valley. It is this fine alluvial sandiness that makes the vineyard resource so significant, the vines, planted in the early 1970's, consistently produce the purest and brightest signatures of Hunter Semillon.

The Semillon was harvested on the 27th January then crushed, chilled and pressed immediately. Fermentation occurred using a selected pure yeast culture in stainless steel tanks, at cool to cold temperatures to maximise and retain varietal freshness.

Bright and lifted aromas of lemon and lime on the nose - hallmarks of this low-yielding vineyard. Early picked, having only 10% alcohol, this Semillon has very delicate mouth-feel and litheness, yet shows astoundingly bright lime-fruit and green-melon presence and persistence. The acidity is totally balanced, giving sustaining juicy vigour and fine structure. A classic Hunter Semillon.
