Producer Information

La Bascula is the name given to the Spanish wine range produced by Ed Adams MW and South African winemaker Bruce Jack. The term itself means weighing scales, and represents the balance between indigenous Spanish varieties and modern winemaking. Their philosophy is to focus on small volumes and really high quality - making wines that offer excellent value for money whilst being true to the regions they represent. The result is fine, ripe, concentrated wines.

La Bascula started life with just two wines in the range, both Monastrell based red wines from Jumilla, south-east Spain. They now offer a broad range of wines from regions including Rioja, Rueda and Alicante.

Catalan Eagle takes its name from the soaring Eagles flying above the winery in the beautiful Tierra Alta, home too of some of Catalonia's best wines.

Grapes

Garnacha, Carinena, Syrah

Production

Sourced from Pepe Fuster's 26ha vineyard in Terra Alta, near Tarragona. The vineyard is organically certified - with stoney limestone and clay soil, and vines grown at 500-600m altitude.

A blend of Garnacha, Carinena and Syrah - with the remaining 15% made up from Cabernet Sauvignon. Two month's contact with oak staves gives a touch of vanilla and added complexity.

Tasting Notes

Weighty with sweet ripe blackberry and raspberry fruit and warm vanilla oak spice. The oak contact gives this wine a new world feel whilst remaining firmly and typically Spanish from the character of old-vine Grenache and Carinena.

Smooth, ripe tannins mean the wine can be drunk on its own but is particularly good with barbecued meats and chorizo sausage feasts.
